AB 149 (CA Serialized Numbers for Controlled Substance Prescriptions)

A Workflow stage can be set up to require users to enter a Form Number when filling written scripts for Controlled Substances. This Workflow stage can be used to meet the requirements of Assembly Bill (AB) 149, which requires serialized numbers for Controlled Substance reporting in California.

 

1.Click on the System menu item.

2.Select Workflow Setup. The Workflow Setup screen will open.

3.Click on the New Stage option.

4.Enter a Name for the stage (e.g., "Serial Number Capture"). You can also enter a Description.

5.In the Workflow field, make sure your pharmacy's Workflow system is selected.

6.In the Type field, click on the drop-down arrow and select "Automatic."

7.Click on the Save and Close button.

8.In the Workflow Setup screen, select your new Workflow stage.

9.In the "Requirements to Enter Stage" section, click on the New 'and' Requirement button.

10.In the Entry Requirement field, click on the drop-down arrow and select the "Script Entry" option.

11.Click Save and Close.

12.Click on the New 'and' Requirement button again.

13.In the Entry Requirement field, click on the drop-down arrow and select the "Written Script" option.

14.Click Save and Close.

15.You will now need to add an or requirement. Click on the New 'or' Requirement button.

16.In the Entry Requirement field, click on the drop-down arrow and select the "Controlled Script (status)" option.

17.Click Save and Close.

18.You will now need to add a second or requirement. Click on the New 'or' Requirement button.

19.In the Entry Requirement field, click on the drop-down arrow and select the "Narcotic Script (status)" option.

20.Click Save and Close.

21.In the "Tasks in this Stage" section, click on the New Task button.

22.In the Task field, click on the drop-down arrow and select the "Input Form Number" option.

23.Click Save and Close. The completed stage should look like the image shown below.

When this setting is in place, if a user fills a written script for a Controlled Substance, the "Input Form Number" screen will appear, prompting the user to enter the correct number into the Form Number field.

 

The Form Number field is mapped to the AIR02 field in ASAP 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, and 4.2a standard files.
