Pseudoephedrine Tracking

You can track Pseudoephedrine sales and set warnings to appear if too much PSE is being sold over the counter to a patient. You can also choose whether or not sales that exceed a patient's PSE limit will be prevented or allowed. Follow the instructions below to set up ProPharm's PSE Tracking features.

Setting Up PSE Limits

You can specify how many grams of Pseudoephedrine should be given to a patient. In the Checkout screen, if you add non-prescription items that exceed the PSE limit, a warning message will display. To set up PSE limits:

1.Click on the System menu item.

2.Select Options. The Options setup screen will open.

3.Scroll down to the Pseudoephedrine options in the Point of Sale section. There will be an option labeled "The Amount of OTC Pseudoephedrine a Patient can have in a Month (in grams)." Inside this field, enter a number of grams.

4.There is also a setting for "The Amount of OTC Pseudoephedrine a Patient can have in a Day (in grams)." Enter the correct number of grams here as well.

5.When you have entered the correct limits, click Save.

6.In the Checkout screen, select a patient. Then click on the Add Item button to enter an over-the-counter item.

7.If a patient is purchasing more over-the-counter Pseudoephedrine than they are allowed (either for a single day or for the entire month), a warning message will display in the Checkout screen. (Depending on another PSE setting—discussed below—the user may only receive a warning but still be allowed to process the transaction, or the user may be restricted from completing the sale.)

NOTE: When you are selling medication to a patient, the PSE check will only be applied to the first patient you select in the Checkout screen. Make sure you choose the correct patient, choose the correct medication, and then attempt to complete the sale. If you choose a second patient and add medications to the sale, ProPharm will not check that second patient's daily or monthly PSE amounts. You will need to re-open the Checkout screen and choose a new patient to perform the PSE check for that patient.

Allowing Sales Over PSE Limit

1.Click on the System menu item.

2.Select Options. The Options setup screen will open.

3.Scroll down to the Pseudoephedrine options in the Point of Sale section.

4.Locate the Prevent Sale when Over Patient Pseudoephedrine Limit option.

5.If you mark this checkbox, ProPharm will not only warn the user when a sale would exceed the patient's PSE limit, but it will actually prevent the user from completing the sale.

6.After you have made your selection, click Save.

Setting Up a PSE Message

You can enter a PSE message to be displayed on the signature pad when patients are signing for their medication. This message will appear when a patient is purchasing over-the-counter Pseudoephedrine.

1.Click on the System menu item.

2.Select Options. The Options setup screen will open.

3.Scroll down to the Pseudoephedrine options in the Point of Sale section.

4.Find the option for "Pseudoephedrine Message on SigPad." In this field, enter the message that you want patients to see whenever they are purchasing over-the-counter Pseudoephedrine.

5.Click on the Save button. When patients are picking up their medication, they will receive this message before signing for their purchase.
