Searching Tips

Searching generally works the same way throughout ProPharm One+. If you just start typing, any matching search results will appear based on the characters you have entered. To increase the number of ways you can search, ProPharm often allows you to look for more than one kind of information. So, for example, you can search for a drug by a Drug Name or an NDC. For a closer look at searching options, follow the instructions below on searching for a Patient's record.

Patient Searching Options

By the Patient's Name

By the Patient's DOB

By the Patient's Phone Number

By the Patient's Address

By the Patient's Account Number

Using Barcodes/Card Readers

By the Patient's Name

You can search for a patient by his or her name. To do this, just start typing in the Patient field. (You will need to enter at least 2 characters.) Various options will be shown in the drop-down menu. You can select the correct option from the list.

You can use commas to narrow a search by last and first name. For example, you can search for "Smith, James" to avoid seeing too many options with the last name "Smith." You can even run these types of searches without using full names. For example, you could search for "Smi, Ja" and locate James Smith as well.

By the Patient's DOB

You can also search by a patient's date of birth. This can be done with dashes or forward slashes (MM/DD/YYYY or MM-DD-YYYY). You will need to enter the full date before any matching results are shown.

By the Patient's Phone Number

You can search for patients by using their phone numbers. Starting typing the patient's number to begin a search. Be sure to start with the area code, then enter the rest of the phone number.

By the Patient's Address

You can also locate a patient by searching for his or her address. Start typing the numbers in the address to begin a search. Do not search by street name, but by number.

By the Patient's Account Number

If a patient has been assigned an Account Number in your system, you can start typing that number to begin a patient search.

Using Barcode Scanners/Card Readers

There are places throughout ProPharm where you might want to scan a barcode rather than type inside a search field. For example, when selecting a drug in the Script Filling screen, you might scan the drug's barcode rather than typing the drug's name. You can also use a scanner to select a patient in the Checkout screen. Some pharmacies may have customers using Patient ID cards. There are settings in the Options screen for configuring card readers.

If you have questions about setting up card readers or barcode scanners, please contact our support staff.
